Gulfisha Tarannum — Co-Founder & Business Operations Lead

Building the operational backbone of a growing business — systems, compliance, and automation.

"Good operations don’t announce themselves — they just work, quietly, every single time, so the business never has to think about them."

I’m Gulfisha Tarannum, an MCA-qualified Business Operations and Finance professional, and Co-Founder of Arise Enterprise.

My work is the part of a business most people never see: the operations, compliance, documentation, and reporting systems that keep everything running without anyone having to worry about it. I manage Arise Enterprise end-to-end — GST filing, current-account and payment tracking, invoicing, vendor coordination, and MIS reporting — and I’m increasingly building automation-assisted workflows into that reporting so less of it depends on manual effort.

Before Arise, I spent five years in project and office support on FTTH/telecom infrastructure work, handling documentation, coordination, and records for large-scale rollouts — where I learned that operations discipline is often what actually determines whether ambitious projects succeed or stall.

I completed my MCA (Master of Computer Applications) in 2024, returning to formal study after a family break, and I now bring that combination — technical grounding, real operational experience, and hands-on ownership of a registered business — to how I run Arise’s back-end systems.

Background & Experience

The Journey

I didn’t start out in operations. Between 2018 and 2023, I worked in project and office support for FTTH/telecom infrastructure rollouts — documentation, data entry, coordination, and records for large-scale fibre projects delivered through Airtel’s network partners. It was detail-heavy, deadline-driven work, and it taught me that the difference between a project that runs smoothly and one that doesn’t usually comes down to documentation discipline and coordination — not technology.

During this period, I also went back to complete my MCA (Master of Computer Applications) at Kalinga University (2022–2024), after an earlier career break. Returning to formal education as an adult, alongside ongoing work, was its own lesson in discipline and follow-through.

In 2023, I became Co-Founder and operations lead of Arise Enterprise, a registered company. Since then, I’ve run its operations end-to-end: GST compliance and filing, current-account and payment tracking, invoicing, vendor coordination, and the MIS reporting that keeps the business’s finances and operations visible and auditable. Arise’s telecom/FTTH project turnover has been routed through the company since GST registration, and I’ve been the one accountable for keeping those records accurate.

More recently, I’ve started building automation-assisted reporting into how the business runs — using Excel/Power BI (basic, still learning) and prompt-based AI workflows — because manual reporting doesn’t scale, and error-free reporting matters more as the business grows.

Today, my focus is straightforward: keep the operational and financial backbone of Arise reliable, compliant, and increasingly automated.

Writing Philosophy

How I Approach Operations

I believe operations should be invisible. If people are talking about the operations of a business, something has usually gone wrong — the paperwork is late, the numbers don’t match, a vendor payment got missed. When operations are done right, nobody notices them; things simply happen on time.

My approach is built on a few principles:

  1. Documentation first, memory never: I don’t rely on remembering what was agreed or paid — everything gets recorded, so nothing depends on anyone’s memory, including mine.
  2. Compliance is not optional: GST filing, invoicing, and financial records are done properly and on time, not caught up later. Late compliance is expensive and stressful; on-time compliance is boring, which is the point.
  3. Automate the repeatable, not the judgment calls: I’m building automation-assisted reporting into the business, but only for the parts that are genuinely repetitive — the reporting, the tracking, the reminders. Decisions still need a person.

What I think sets my approach apart is that I came into this from hands-on documentation work on real infrastructure projects, not from a purely administrative or theoretical background. I know what it looks like when documentation breaks down on a live project, and I built my operational habits around preventing that.

In practice, this means Arise Enterprise’s compliance has stayed current, its payment and vendor records are traceable, and the reporting it needs — for a bank, an auditor, or a partner — is never a scramble to reconstruct after the fact.

That reliability isn’t glamorous, but it’s what lets everyone else in the business focus on growth instead of worrying whether the paperwork is in order.

Inside My Head

A belief I hold: A business’s real financial and operational health shows up in its documentation, not its pitch. I’ve seen how a well-kept GST filing, a clean payment tracker, and an accurate MIS report tell a truer story than any presentation — and I’ve built my role around keeping that story accurate.

Something I came back to: I stepped away from formal work for a period, then returned and completed my MCA. That return taught me a career break isn’t a gap to explain away — it’s just a pause, and what you do after it is what actually counts. I don’t lead with the break; I lead with what I built afterward.

Currently learning: I’m working through Power BI and basic Primavera P6, and slowly bringing prompt-based AI workflows into how Arise reports and tracks its operations. I’m honest about where I am with these — genuinely useful but still basic, not expert-level yet — because overstating a skill you’ll be asked to use is worse than admitting you’re still building it.

What I’d tell someone starting out in operations: the unglamorous, repetitive parts — filing on time, tracking every payment, keeping records someone else could pick up and understand — are not the boring part of the job. They are the job. Everything else depends on them being right.

Current Focus

Currently focused on strengthening Arise Enterprise’s compliance and reporting systems — GST, payment tracking, and vendor documentation — while building basic automation-assisted reporting (Power BI, prompt-based AI workflows) into day-to-day operations so less of it depends on manual effort.

Methodologies

My work is guided by a few practical frameworks: **Documentation-first operations** Every transaction, payment, and compliance filing is recorded as it happens, not reconstructed later. This is the single habit that prevents most operational problems before they start. **Compliance calendar discipline** GST and statutory filings run on a fixed calendar, tracked ahead of deadlines — not triggered by reminders from accountants or penalty notices. **Automate the repeatable, verify the rest** I’m building automation-assisted reporting for the parts of operations that are genuinely repetitive (tracking, reporting, reminders), while keeping human review on anything involving judgment — vendor negotiations, exceptions, or financial decisions. **Learn-on-demand for tools** Rather than claiming broad tool expertise upfront, I pick up specific tools (Power BI, Primavera P6 basics) as the business genuinely needs them, and I’m transparent about being a learner versus an expert on each.

Let's Talk Operations & Systems

If your business is growing faster than its back-end systems can keep up — compliance slipping, payment tracking scattered across spreadsheets, reporting that takes days to pull together — that’s the gap I help close.

I work with small businesses and founders who need someone to own operations, GST/financial compliance, and reporting properly, so they can focus on growth instead of paperwork.

If that sounds like where your business is right now, I’d be glad to talk through what’s actually slowing you down and how a proper operational system could fix it.
